The next Windows should focus on the basics, and I mean it. Today I find a lot of windows behaving very "rudely" by always attracting me attention in an obtrusive manner. For example, the Sound Hardware Test Wizard in Windows XP, during its hardware detection screen, it always forces its way on top of all other windows, and that's just annoying. Same goes to Automatic Updates in Windows XP Service Pack 2, though I will forgive it since it's about securing the computer, but it would be better if it just notify me as a notification balloon. You know, a lot of times I'm typing an important essay and in the middle of typing the Automatic Updates or other obtrusive just cuts your words that you're typing. In short I'd like to see some progress on making sure that we, the user, is in full control of their productivity, and not being manipulated by poor software engineering... |
