I have no problem opening any program on my computer which does not require internet access.. I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP3 and Internet Explorer (IE)7.0. Any desktop icon I click on which requires internet access, including the IE icon, will try to open IE, but then the trouble starts. The first thing I notice is that the IE starts to open with blue horizontal bands across the top. Then when it finally opens, no matter which website I enter, IE freezes and I get the message "This Program is not responding". The system then locks up and I have to restart by pressing and holding down the tower power button. I have tried disabling Norton Internet Security - doesn't help. I have tried System Restore, but no matter which date I select, I get a message stating System Restore could not restore to the date selected. I have tried starting in diagnostic mode with all the start up programs deselected; this did not help. Any thoughts? I really need help! -- Don |

Did this behavior start immediately after you installed WinXP SP3? Which was installed first, IE7 or WinXP SP3? Was NIS running in the background when you installed WinXP SP3 and/or IE7? When does your NIS subscription expire? > ...I have tried System Restore, but no > matter which date I select, I get a message stating System Restore could > not restore to the date selected. See http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html => Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start IE7 in No Add-ons mode: 1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or 2. Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No add-ons).
