Hi,

I'm getting an error message in the application event log
every time Windows is trying to create a system restore point.
It's event 513 from CAPI2:

Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the
System Writer.

Details:
AddCoreCsiFiles : BeginFileEnumeration() failed.

System Error:
Access is denied.

Online help directs me to this page:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734021.aspx

I follow the instructions to check the permissions. It turns out everything
is exactly like the article says it should be.
But when I try what the "Verify" section says:

vssadmin list writers

"System Writer" does NOT appear in the list.
So far I haven't been able to find anything helpful on Google.
Has anyone encountered this problem? Can you give me any pointers to a
possible solution.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit with SP1 and all the latest updates.

Thanks,

Sergei.

It's almost certainly a permissions problem. To verify that it is
set everyone full access on the com catalog folder. If that fixes it then
carefully follow the steps in the technet article to set them properly.

Hmmm maybe you have to turn off the "inherit permissions from parent"
crap???

Has anyone found the solution to this problem? Am also experiencing it
on Vista SP1 Business with computer administrator user account.

Hi Sebastian,

Not certain if this may help - relates to Volume Shadow Copy Error
0x800423f4 - writer error: non retryable . However, at the bottom half
of the link it explains how to do this
