Since we can not see your screen, we don't know what is a "kept email =
slot".
The program itself does not make a folder called "kept".

I encourage my customers to make a folder, called "save", maybe you =
called it "kept", to store mail they read but do not want to delete.
Unfortunately this folder, being custom made, can also be deleted if you =
are not careful.
Have you looked in the Deleted Items folder?
If you deleted the "kept" folder, and emptied the Deleted Items folder, =
most likely you have lost those messages.

One has to be careful when deleting messages in a custom folder.
You may think your have highlighted just the message, when in fact you =
highlighted the folder.
Then the delete command deletes the entire folder.
Windows Mail will not let you delete the default folders (Inbox, outbox, =
drafts, etc.) but it will let you delete the folders you make.
