My hard drive went crazy (emachine) I would like to recover my data before they change out my hard drive again. when I boot up it gives me two choices bios setting and F10 to boot. I can not access safe mode to backup and I dont have a bootable cd. I do have another computer with vista to make a bootable cd if I knew what files to copy. Is there anyway I can save my data before trying to reinstall or send it back to gateway for another hard drive -- Help Please????? |

Hi, If the hard drive isn't damaged - and it may be - then remove it from the machine and slave it into the working one. Copy off data using that installation, then replace the drive before shipping for repairs. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Tara Roper-Washington" <TaraRoperWashington@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:00AA7967-90EE-4BDB-8352-067486B7BAFC@microsoft.com... > My hard drive went crazy (emachine) I would like to recover my data before > they change out my hard drive again. when I boot up it gives me two > choices > bios setting and F10 to boot. As suggested try reading the drive from another machine. Or maybe download Bart pe builder and create a boot cd. There was i believe also a linux system rescue boot cd which is on this site http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page Hope that helps. Its always a good idea to create a partiton on your hard drive and use that for all your data, or even better a second hard drive and then backup to an external drive or media. Good luck.
