Hello, I am trying to install Vista on a homebuilt machine. When I boot up, with the disc inserted, it says \"Press any key to boot from CD/DVD\" After I do so, it loads files and then takes me to a screen that looks like a Vista background, but right after a mouse appears the machine restarts. The machine is as follows. Mobo: Intel BOXDX48BT2 ('Newegg.com - Intel BOXDX48BT2 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121338)) CPU: ('Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops' (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036)) GFX: EVGA 8800gts. -- devurandom |

Hi, devurandom. Thanks for the link to your mobo and CPU. That answers a lot of questions. ;<) But you didn't tell us about your hard drive(s): How many? How big? How partitioned? Make and model might be significant. Any pre-existing operating system? And, most important, what interface: SATA? IDE? SCSI? Especially for the one that will be designated in the BIOS as the boot device. Vista includes drivers for MOST SATA drives, but if yours is very old or very new or out of the mainstream, you may need to press F6 at the beginning of Setup and install drivers for it. After the restart, what happens? Do you see a blue screen, even for just a flicker? Oh, one more: Your Vista version: 64-bit? OEM? Etc.? NewEgg's first image shows the Vista logo; did the OEM Vista come with the mobo? RC -- R. C.
