I cannot install vs2008 sp1 (VS90sp1-KB945140-ENU.exe) on Win XP.
The problem seems to be related to .NET framework 3.5 sp1 (which is included
in vs2008 sp1). -I get the same error when I install sp1 for .Net framework
3.5. Heres what's in dd_dotnetfx35error.txt:
[08/13/08,13:48:01] XPSEPSC Installer: [2] Error code 1603 for this
component means "Fatal error during installation.
"

However, I ran "XPSEPSC-x86-en-US.exe /quit" prior to VS 2008 sp1 install.
Print spooler Service _is_ running (some references suggested that this
might be the problem)
Any ideas?

I'm getting the same exact thing. Have you found any way to resolve this yet?
I've tried just about everything I can, and am "this" close to having to
reinstall my OS from scratch... Not happy about this at all. I've already
lost almost 4 days of work because of this.

Sorry don't have the link but on the MS site there is a tool to get rid
of any beta etc. of SP1. I applied SP1 and had problems. I then ran
this tool, redid SP1 and have had no problems (at least not there
weren't there before).

I think the tool is called something like Service Pack Preparation tool.

This is almost certainly a Visual Studio problem. Don't reinstall your OS.
