Good Morning,

I broke down and downloaded and installed IE 7 finally (running XP SP3).
The issue that I am having is that I cannot navigate by entering addresses
into the address bar. I enter the address and either hit enter or the
navigation arrow and nothing happens. In other words it stays on the home
page. I had already installed SP3 prior to "upgrading" to IE 7. All of the
patches, etc. are installed, so I am at a loss for what the issue here is. I
am currently navigating by using either my favorites or by entering the
address into the google search bar and then clicking on the website when it
shows up on the search.

Help please,
Glen

Before installing IE 7 you need to carefully follow the procedures
described here (which generally apply whenever you install or upgrade
software):
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install.

If you did not follow these procedures you may have a damaged or
incomplete installation of IE 7. Uninstall IE 7 (which returns you to IE
6) by following these directions:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177
....and...
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

then follow the procedures described above and re-install IE 7. Tip:
Download the IE 7 installer directly from Microsoft and install from
your hard disk:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

This problem can also be caused by an incompatible browser add-on. The
troubleshooting steps described below will help you to diagnose and fix
the problem:

How to Optimize or Reset Internet Explorer 7

(Give the Guided Help a try.)

Finally, problems with Internet Explorer can also be caused by the
presence of viruses or other malicious software.

You can do a clean install or you can show your computer to a
professional. I would choose the latter.

Help us help you. Be more precise and give exact examples.
FYI "entering the addresses into the address bar" allows an interpretation
that you are not entering full URLs (i.e. address complete with a protocol prefix.)
In that case what you are entering may not be being converted to a URL
but instead treated as a search argument for your Address bar search.
Then your symptom could be telling you that your Address bar search
wasn't working. (For example.) Notice that when you use Favorites
or links in web pages (which you claim do work) you more than likely
are using full URLs as a result.

In addition take careful note of *all* your symptoms.
Things may be happening in the Status bar, Title bar,
Tab label, Address bar, as well as in the display area
of the window. Remember your words have to substitute
for what our eyes might notice.

Alternatively, if the No Add-ons diagnostic procedure isn't helping you
identify a cause you may have to resort to more conventional clean-boot
troubleshooting techniques. On that tack I would suggest you definitely
try uninstalling third-party Internet accessories such as the Google search bar
(not just disable them, unless disabling them changes your symptoms
for the better.) ; )

Good luck
