Hi - getting a strange set of problems after adding a new user in Vista Home
Premium. Have been using Vista for nearly a year now with no major problems.
Only one user on the box, the admin account created when setting up Vista.
Tried to use the user migration wizard to transfer an account & settings from
an old XP machine. Wizard ran OK but when logged on to Vista as the new user
(non-admin) I get the following symptoms:

* Welcome centre - bottom half of this is blank, no "show at next logon"
tick box either;
* Right-click menus (eg on desktop or taskbar) leave the selected menu
option on the desktop the first time they're selected;
* Open applications don't appear on task bar;
* Hovering over the clock in the bottom right hand corner doesn't bring
up the date pop-up;
* Hovering over the notification area doesn't bring up any pop-ups;
* Task manager doesn't update (eg CPU %age) after opening;
* GetRight logo stays on screen until clicked.

If I log off the new user and log back in with my normal (admin) account, it
then has the same issues. The only way I can recover is to do a System
Restore to a point before the Migration Wizard ran. However once restored, if
I log on as the new user afterwards, it all goes wrong again.

I've tried the same with newly created accounts (admin and non-admin), the
same issues are apparent, a System Restore is needed to recover. Seemingly
the only way to avoid the issues is to only log on with the original admin
account.

Any ideas what's happening here, or how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance
Tim
