I am trying to help a person out using remote assistance in Live Messenger and it is not connecting. I have Vista 64-bit on my end and no firewall. On the other end is a Vista Home premium. A Linksys Router on that end as well. I am behind a Cisco ASA-5505 but I thought that with remote Assistance you don't have to open firewall ports. Also on the other end she is using OneCare which again I thought would allow the connection to go through. Any ideas as to what might be causing the problem? When she sends me the request I can accept it and then I see the password box come through and I enter the right password. Then I get a message saying it can't connect. |

Hi Scott, A password box with Remote Assistance? I never saw one, associated with Remote Assistance. No, its true that you don't need to open any specific ports, but you do need to give Remote Assistance FullAccess going through the Firewall, speaking from usng McAfee Personal Firewall Plus. Also, within any Router, the Enable UPnP must be checked or turned on. And in Services in the operating system, Universal Plug and Play Device Host, Startup Type should be set to Automatic and must be running. Also HTTP and SSDP Discovery Service must be on and running. While you are in Services, scroll down to anything about Remote, and make sure they are set to Manual and not disabled. -- thecreator "Scott Micale" <smicale@newsgroup.nospam> wrote in message news:1FDD5720-F586-4E2E-BDE7-CAFB48F4A307@microsoft.com... >I am trying to help a person out using remote assistance in Live Messenger >and it is not connecting.
