I have been trying to synchronise folders using messenger with my son and
daughter. Messenger allows us to create sharing folders, but when we place an
item in our sharing folder, it tries to synchronise and then says "sharing
folders can't synchronise right now but will try again later"

Originally, they both had xp and I had vista so thought this problem was an
incompatibility as they could share ok between their xp machines. However, my
son now has vista and we are still having problems. We have tried disabling
firewalls, unintalling and reinstalling messenger etc. My son has remotely
accessed my PC (he is in US, I am in UK) and has tried changing folder
permissions etc. But still no luck. I can send files individually, but want
to send a lot more photos in a less laboursome manner!

Does anybody have any ideas?

Many Thanks,

David

Same thing happend with me.
I am guessing your internet is a bit slow when uploading. If your internet
is pretty slow(mines was at 9kbps) it wont sync. Try reseting your
router/modem. That may help.

Some other causes:
Network problems(as in msn)

There is no compatability issue that I know of. I have a sharing folder with
A freind that is using XP

If that doesnt help, you may be able to compress a picture folder and then
upload it.(right click, send to, compressed/zipped folder)

It also sounds like you have User Account Control(UAC) on. That shouldn't
cause any problems.

Greetings David,

Both of you might try rebuilding your Sharing Folders in your account. Note that this will
remove everything in your Sharing Folders locally, so you will want to copy over anything
important first. Then login, press the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the menubar,
choose the Tools menu, then Options and then Sharing Folders.

Uncheck the top Sharing Folders option to turn it off and confirm. Click Apply if available
and then turn it back on. Now make a new sharing folder and see what happens.
