Hihi I have a Acer TravelMate 6592 laptop with Windows Vista, that I payed for and bought with the laptop. Suddently today Windows does not start, it doesn't matter if I put it in safe mode. I can start the computer, I get into Vista but then the screen is just simply blue (but not a bluescreen though) and I am able to browse one folder. My Vista does not start properly but I'm able to get into the internet through this one open folder but the status bar and everything is missing. Down in the corner it says: Windows Vista (TM) Evalutation copy. Build 6001. But I did read earlier that this watermark comes with servicepack 1, even though the copy of Vista is fully legal. Can someone help me? Because I can't do anything exept use this one folder to get to the internet so all my files are there, but Vista simply ISN'T! -- annska |

Did you contact Acer or the reseller who sold you the laptop? Your computer has the Vista SP1 Beta release installed on it as indicated by the Evaluation watermark and it has to be uninstalled before the RTM version of Vista SP1 can be installed. The RTM version of SP1 does not have any watermark. I believe the Beta version may have expired. You will need to contact Acer on this one. Removing the evaluation copy of SP1 and installing the RTM (which should be offered by Windows Update anyway) would be the easier option, but as you are unable to access anything other than this folder Ace should be able to advise you better. They may suggest a re-install back to factory conditions and then removal of the evaluation copy of SP1. Did they supply you with a recovery DVD or do you have a recovery partition on your laptop? I suggest you check your manual to see what options are available for restoring your system back to factory conditions. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". SP1 pre-release was my first thought too, but the symptoms don't sound quite right and reduced functionality would not kick in before the June 30 expiration date. Something goofy is going on if it is an SP1 pre-release issue. I was not sure of the pre-release date. Thank you for supplying it. It then is quite possible then that the problem is that the OP tried to install the RTM SP1 release on top of the Beta release without deleting it first as per the instructions. You never know. Sometimes they leave out a tiny detail like they thought it was taking too long so they powered off the computer.
