i have a question what if a person upgrade to vista useing a upgrade ver of the cd-- i heard that if a person does upgrade from xp to vista-- it make the xp window cd KEY-- no longed good any more to install- in case a person does not like vista |

A myth. If you upgrade to Vista from XP the license for that copy of XP can no longer be used. However, the product key is not affected. It is a licensing and not a software issue. For sure you cannot transfer the XP license to another machine once you have performed the upgrade even it is a retail (transferrable) license. What I would do is image the hard drive with a program like Acronis True Image Home before performing an upgrade so that all you have to do to return to XP is restore from the image. That way all your programs are save too and you don't have to go through reinstalling a bunch of stuff. Of course I would image the hard drive again after the upgrade so that the system is backed up that way too.
