How can I preview a file in word before opening it. Previous version allowed me to do this. Seems like vista is a step backwards. |

Hi, Nelson. In Vista's Windows Explorer, find the .doc file and highlight it. If you've turned on Explorer's Preview Pane (Organize | Layout), you should see your document there, including fonts, formatting, pictures, etc. Not like fully opening the document, of course, but enough to make sure it's the right file. In Word, click File | Open for similar viewing. BUT - it's inconsistent for me. I haven't tried to track down the conditions when it does or doesn't show the preview. If I wanted to ask other users about this, I'd try the Office or Word newsgroups, rather than here in File Management. It's more a Word feature than a Vista one. I'm not sure how to find those newsgroups in the web-based interface (Microsoft Communities, also known as discussion groups). To find them in your newsreader, just click here: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.word.newusers I know you're not a new user but, once there, you can find all the other Word newsgroups by simply clicking Newsgroups and typing "word" into the search box at the top. I'm using Office 2007 in Windows Ultimate x64 with 4 GB RAM. Performance might not be as snappy with less hardware or software, but Vista itself is a big step forward! ;<) RC -- R. C.
