I already have a tablet PC and a copy of XP Pro. I am currently running Vista on the tablet, but would like to switch to XP. Is it possible to install XP Pro on my tablet PC, and then apply the SP2 upgrade to gain tablet functionality/ features? Or would I have to buy a brand new copy of XP Tablet Edition? |

>> I have plans to downgrade it to XP pro << The only reliable way to downgrade is to purchase an xp tablet version for that machine from the oem (hp) No general Tablet edition is available for purchase. Simply installing XP pro will result in loosing tablet functionality... even if you successfully install all of the necessary drivers. Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] |

Does this not mean that I can upgrade my XP Pro to a tablet edition with the free upgrade/download? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/tabletpc/upgrade/default.mspx |

Stonie, The link you referenced has to do with upgrading the earlier version of XP Tablet PC Edition SP1 to SP2. You cannot upgrade from standard XP Pro to Tablet PC Edition unless you obtain the installation disks from HP are one of the Microsoft sources such as MSDN. If you contact HP, they should be able to help you. -Reed Rinn MVP Desktop "Stonie J" <young.blake@gmail.com> wrote in message news:bd8afb64-2fe6-4ecb-acaf-6745607fb4ec@q24g2000prf.googlegroups.com... > On May 20, 4:22 pm, "Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev]" > <BevNoSpamBevHoward.com> wrote: >> >> I have plans to downgrade it to XP pro << >> >> The only reliable way to downgrade is to purchase an xp tablet version >> for that machine from the oem (hp) >> >> No general Tablet edition is available for purchase. >> >> Simply installing XP pro will result in loosing tablet functionality... >> even if you successfully install all of the necessary drivers. >> >> Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices] > > This is what caught my attention. It has always been this way. Rainald |
