Virtual machine software can only be used on Windows Vista Business and Ultimate. While people have installed VPC on Vista premium the EULA (end user licence agreemement) forbids its use on any version of Vista other than Business and Ultimate. So in answer to your question the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of VPC cannot be used on Vista premium - at least if you want to stay on the legal side of the EULA. Personally I prefer VMware workstation, however I don't use the 64 bit version (workstation 6.0). Many reply's to you seem to make it even more confusing. Virtual PC will work on Home Premium just fine. It is not "supported", but it works just fine on Home Premium. Not supported means you will have to use peer supported newsgroup support or pay for support if you have problems with it. Although I have now upgraded to Ultimate, I ran it on Home Premium for about a year without any problems. There may have once been a license restriction but it has been removed. Virtual PC does not support a 64 bit guest. You will have to use the Hyper Visor available with Windows Server 2008, and your CPU has to have the VT support. Virtual Server on the other hand will not even install on Home Premium. Yes you can run Windows XP on Virtual PC. As I said in my original reply I prefer VMWare Workstation, and use it to run Windows XP on my Vista Ultimate machine. This works fine for me. Just as an aside I take it that the copy of Windows XP isn't (or won't) be running on another machine? You can't run any of the Windows operating systems on two machines (including virtual machines) without the appropriate licences. Virtual machines are basically used for testing rather than full blown use. For example because VMs only use virtual graphics drivers you wouldn't be able to run AERO should you install any Vista versions.
