I installed IE7 on my laptop (xp pro sp3) and everything went fine. I installed it on my desktop (xp home sp3) and I encountered the following problems: 1) Run once page is blank. It says "done, but there are errors". 2) Windows Update cannot be accessed. It says "Done" but the page is blank. 3) The System Restore Window is blank. 4) The Outlook Express start page is blank. I uninstalled it and got back to IE6 and everything is OK. Thanks for any help. |

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7: Sandi's Installation Tips <= Steps #1-8, #10 & #11; take note of #12, then STOP! http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install (ignore any references to Vista) And I strongly recommend using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update, or this Direct Download link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30-081805b2f90b Direct Download link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30-081805b2f90b Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it. Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. If Optional Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it to take full advantage of IE7's additional security. I performed installation of IE7 about 4-5 times before I posted here, following exactly the steps you are describing. I have Sandi's page as a standard bookmark in my Favorites. I have learned almost by heart any pre-installation advice. But the problems persist. > Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after > installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. IE7 cannot access Windows Update as per No 2 problem in my original post. So it's impossible to install any critical updates after IE7 installation. Also, "Automatic Updates" is on, but I don't get any notification in the Tray. Besides, my system is fully updated. Are there chances for hardware issues, or other software incompatbilies? Many thanks for your answer. > AndreasN wrote: >> I installed IE7 on my laptop (xp pro sp3) and everything went fine.
