I'm desperately trying to install Wincolor on XP Pro x64. (I've been hit by
two Samsung displays having different LCD panels in them!). However, when I
try to install it, I get the message:

"Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet for Windows XP requires that your
computer in running Windows XP SP2 and that you have administrative or
install privileges on your computer."

Well, according to my system properties I am running Service Pack 2,
running Windows XP, and I'm logged in as administrator.

If I assume it's a problem with compatibility, then what am I supposed to do
to synch up my two LCD displays? All the web seems to say is 'install
Wincolor'. Would that I could! If there's a replacement tool that'd be
great.

Any help hugely appreciated.

My initial reaction is that the program is not x64
compatible. When it says it requires Windows XP with
Service Pack 2, it is referring to the standard 32-bit
Windows XP Pro/Home, not Win x64.

P.S.

Microsoft specifically states it for Pro & Home, which is
the 32-bit versions:

System Requirements

* Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP; Windows XP
Home Edition ; Windows XP Professional Edition ; Windows XP
Service Pack 2; Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

* Operating System. Windows XP Home or Professional
with Service Pack 2 or later installed.

>>>> This program is not recommended for use on any other
version of Windows. <<<<<

* Hardware. See the minimum hardware requirements for
the Windows XP operating system you are using.

* Microsoft .NET Framework. Version 1.1 of the
Microsoft .NET Framework is required. This software will be
automatically installed when running Setup if it is not
already present on your system. (Other versions of the .NET
Framework may be safely installed on your system without
affecting the use of this software.)

XP Pro x64 SP2 is a different OS from XP Pro Sp2 x86. It requires 64bit
drivers and if the manufacturer's website does not specifically list support
for XP Pro x64 then you are out of luck. Contact the mgf.

Installing the monitor profiles which come with the monitor drivers should
get you most of the way.

If you have Photoshop or Elements, you can use Adobe Gamma which will be
installed with them.

Otherwise you need a colour management device. See
http://spyder.datacolor.com/products.php , confirm x64 compatibility, and
decide how much you are willing to pay. There are other manufacturers with
devices at similar prices.

This is the way to go to have a pair of matching screens. The more
expensive the calibrating-device, the more colour-accurate your
monitor-profile will be obviously, but then this is limited by your monitor
as well.
