Quick summary....before I went in to change some program settings for a
program on my work computer, i backed up the whole folder it was stored in
(under program files on the C drive is where it came from) by copying it to
my thumbdrive. Later I am cleaning my thumbdrive and transfer everything to
the desktop on my home computer. Recently I am cleaning my desktop of my
home computer, which runs on Vista, and I am trying to delete that file from
my work computer, and it won't let me. The box that pops up and shows the
deleting process and estimates the time remaining just freezes. When I
cancel and close it out, I cannot use windows explorer to view any other
files. For example, if I go to my control panel, it won't show me anything.
It starts to load then immediatley gives me the "red x" by the search bar. I
can't refresh or anything. It is like that with every folder. If I go to
'start' then 'computer', same problems. I have to restart the computer for
things to be normal again.

This file is in a folder with other files. So I copy that folder, and send
it to my external hard drive. Then i try to delete the file from my computer
again. It worked. Then I tried to empty my recycle bin, and the problem
happened again. After a restart, the recycle bin was empty. So i am
thinking it is taken care of. Then I remember that I don't want that file on
my external hard drive either, so I go to erase that (hard drive is connected
to my home computer), and the problem happens again. I can't delete the
file. Everytime I try to to makes me lose file information in windows
explorer as I mentioned above.

I just don't understand why I was able to delete from my computer after i
copied it over to my external hard drive, but now i can't delete the file
from my external hard.

Does this problem have anything to do with Vista? Does anyone have any
suggestions on how I can get rid of the file? Or how to view files in
windows explorer without having to resart the computer after a failed attempt
at deleting that file?

Thanks in advance for any help as it will be very much appreciated!

Check http://winhlp.com/node/39 for more info and various ways
to get around this.

Is it an audio or video file that you cannot delete?
