Sorry if this has been asked and previously solved before (didn't find
it in this thread though). I installed System Shock 2 on my computer
(vista home premium 32bit), and it will load fine. My problem is that
once you get out of the menu and go to start a new game or click on
intro the screen just goes blank and stays blank (a black screen
basically). Does anyone have any idea as to what could be wrong and
perhaps how to fix this? Any information would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance :D!

Try why Hz suggested with ddfix, are the intro videos playing when you
startup the game? I was having problems where the video codec for the game
(an old version of Indeo) wouldn't work correctly. Instead of playing the
intro video when you start the game it simply goes to the main menu, then
when you start the game you usually get a blank screen.

Was a pain in the ass to fix, I forget what I had to do. I think you just
had to register the codec file that's isntalled normally. What Hz described
will probably work. Good luck. Great game.

Hey there, thanks for your replies. I tried what Hz said and that didn't
work out too well. I followed the instructions on that websites, etc.
but no luck.

Andy, as soon as I start up the game by clicking on the SS2 icon it
goes straight to the menu. I can do anything in the menu, but once I go
to start a new game (or anything that will put me in the game really) I
get a black/blank screen. Some kind of an AVI chunk (I think that's what
it was) used to appear on the desktop behind the game menu so to speak,
but after I did what Hz said to do it stopped, so it appeared it was
working...except it's doing the same thing with the black screen
now...only difference is that now once it gets to the black screen the
game pretty much crashes and i get some kind of what I think is an error
on vista saying that the program has stopped working, etc.

I just wanted to let you all know that I fixed the problem. I downloaded
a codecs package ( 'Codec Guide: K-Lite Codec Pack and other useful
stuff' (http://www.codecguide.com/) ) called K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and
it seemed to fix the problem. While installing it it detected a broken
or missing video file in System Shock 2, so I removed it since that's
what it recommended to do. Hope this helps anyone else out who is having
this same problem, and thanks again for all of your help!!! :D
 :)

*Edit* By the way, for those of you running a dual processor like me
this may help to get SS2 running for you as well. I kept on working on
trying to configure my processor even though it seemed fine for the
game, but this really did do the trick. Good luck to you all :)!
