I have a need to do some VSTO programming against Office 2003 files. I had
Office 2007 on my system and uninstalled it so I could install 2003 (Pro),
which I previously had installed before 2007. But now the setup program is
telling me that the product key I have given it is not a valid key.

???

This is the key I got via the MSDN subscriber section. Not only that, but I
checked my personal subscription key (I'm at work and was
trying--rightly--to use the key for that subscription) I found that they're
exactly the same!

Yes, I have rebooted my computer since uninstalling 2007. No, it didn't
help. Any ideas? I can't imagine this is a junk-left-over-in-registry
situation, but who knows?

The solution in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842566 LOOKED like it worked
(all the files got copied) but the first Office product I ran asked for a CD
key and rejected the one I entered.

HO-LY CRAP! The keys have changed! I noticed that the description for the
product key on the MSDN site was "Office Professional Enterprise and
Standard Edition 2003 (New)." So I finally focused on "(New)" and went and
found an old XML product key export I had (FORTUNATELY) made a while back.
It had a completely different key and THAT ONE WORKED!

I suppose if I had downloaded the ISO from MSDN then the new product key
probably would have worked. Hopefully this post will help anyone else who is
an MSDN disc pack rat like I am and uses an old disc.

I have to wonder what the point was behind changing this in the first
place....
