All - Last night one of our servers logged several 2012 events in the System Log with the following description: While transmitting or receiving data, the server encountered a network error. Occassional errors are expected, but large amounts of these indicate a possible error in your network configuration. The error status code is contained within the returned data (formatted as Words) and may point you towards the problem. The system experienced a soft hang shortly after this. I do not believe this to be a problem with the physical NIC but I was curious if this event is indicative of a resource problem. Thanks! |

Hi Megan, Don't know the size of your organization or network but it is not uncommon for some companies to have their IT people who perform network management tasks to do this late at night or very early in the morning (expecting that no one will be at work). Since servers by nature are up 24x7 they can be affected by any network down time or changes made by the Network staff. Usually a call to IT would confirm that some maintenance was going on when we had problems. JS - So this event is referring to network connectivity? What exactly is it testing for to determine there are network problems? We didn't have any network downtime which is why I am asking... In our case is was DNS issues, however there are other things that could case this error.
