Hi group.

Is it possible to install more than 4 GB of RAM and make it usable for a
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition?
Is it possible to convert a Standard Edition installation into an Enterprise
Edition one, without re-installing?

Thanks,

Yuri

No you cannot have >4GB on Standard.

It will need to have a re-install to turn it into Enterprise.

Or, to make it really usable, reinstall to x64 std edition.

Hummm...are you sure?

My understanding is that, starting with Windows 2003, MS changed the model
and now you can upgrade to Enterprise from Standard without re-installing.

..You can also upgrade from Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition to Windows
Server 2003, Enterprise Edition

Hmm...

If it's "Upgrading" then Yes that's possible... But the OP's message was:

>> Is it possible to convert a Standard Edition installation into an

I would interpret re-installing as Upgrading... Since upgrading process will
be transferring files from the Enterprise CD (any newer) to the hard disk...

I guess the wording is confusing me (re-installing). :)

But you are correct. :-D Thanks for the correction!

Umm... I was meaning, will I have to re-install the operating system AND all
the applications istalled on the server?
Or does "Upgrade" mean some roll-on that will make my Stardard server an
Enterprise server without re-installing all the applications?

My main aim is to put more that 4Gb RAM in that server (and make it visible
to Windows - say, 8GB totally) with as little effort and as little offline
time as possible. How can I do that, step-by-step?

Thanks,

Yuri
