Hi,

Before WInternals became part of Microsoft there where several tools with/as
source code available.

Is this still available anywhere? And is the range of available sources
grown?

Also, what happend with the full (used to be the registered) versions of the
tools; the tools available through Microsoft at this moment are all stripped
down versions; You need to order a full version in some cases? If so, where?
Or are these tools save for new extended version of the resource kit?

Regards,

Albert van Peppen

The second part i already found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/enterprise/default.mspx?tab=Microsoft%20Desktop%20Optimization%20Pack
But then the question rises; is it usable for WinXP, Win2K3 and Win2K as
well?
And what about source code? I couldn't found it on MSDN either...

I am looking for the latest RegMon and FileMon sources; the ones that also
work for Win64.
I am also looking for TCPView/monitor source as a great sample (for a little
project to monitor networktraffic on a PC).

Albert

I the entire "Sysinternals" downloadable library on my machine, snagged
the day Mark announced he was going to MSFT.
All 122 / 21mb worth of zipped items.
I just checked and none of the 3 you mentioned include the source files.

I checked my archives and found several sources, among this are the NTRegMon
sources.
But they are dated 11-2000 so are really outdated. I know the updated
sources were also online and i thought they would remain online for more
time :) At least until i really needed them.

I am currently building a full logging /repackaging tool for installations.
As a system administrator live isn't easy with all those pesty installs
without descriptions of what registry (HKLM mostly) is altered. Same for
files on non-user dirs.
With the introduction of Vista on my systems i thought it would be a great
idea to build a tool which can repackage such installs.
I know there are commercial tools for this but since i do this sysadmin work
as volenteer for a non-profit organisation it should be cheaper than
cheap... And i do know my way in VC++ ;)

Mark and Bryce removed the later versions' source code since so many were
stealing them for use in commercial products. The latest sources posted
were rather early versions and had many problems but were intended as
examples. Until Microsoft bought them out, you could obtain current sources
for a fee, but I am not sure if they remain available.

To the best of my knowledge, all the free sysinternals tools are
copy-deployed, with no installer and no surprises. All the fun (installable
drivers, etc) happens the first time you run the program -- and most of it
happens every time you run. Elevated administrative rights are pretty much
required for use.
